Millicent

Image
Millicent We arrived at Millicent and decided to head for the Information Centre.   Here we met Carole who was very welcoming, helpful and chatty!   The centre had a beautiful display of artworks from jewellery to recycled artworks.   Outside was a sculpture to commemorate the contributions of the fire brigade to the Ash Wednesday fires as well as sculptures to remember car accident victims.

Meningie to VC

Image
We stayed overnight in Miningie which was next to Lake Albert – a significant part of the Coorong National Park which joins Lake Alexandria.   Our van site was right next to the lake where we observed the pelicans feasting on the abundance of food as well as lots of ducks.   A very tranquil setting!   The smaller lake seemed to be never ending but we also discovered Alexandria was massive and seemed like the ocean in width and length.   When we looked at the map we discovered that we could travel from Meningie around to Narrung to Raukkan (an Aboriginal community) where the old church is featured on the $50 note!   We boarded the 24hr ferry across the Narrows where Albert meets Alexandrina and we also saw Point Malcolm Lighthouse – the only inland lighthouse in the southern hemisphere. We arrived across the Murray River from Wellington where we had to cross yet another 24hr ferry where loads of cars motorhomes and trucks were waiting when we got on to the town...

Robe

Robe We arrived in Robe and decided to check it all out first and the sun was shining for the first time in a few days!   We drove around had a look at the lookouts and parts of it was like Naval Base and Margaret River areas with the limestone cliffs.   We then drove around to look at the beach mansions, the marina which was small and well-built and to see all the shops.   We decided to walk the main street and find a grocery store but came across the local fish and chip shop.   Not finding the grocery store we decided to treat ourselves to lunch and they were the best fish and chips we have ever tasted – better than Freo’s Fish shop, Ciccerellos, and Albany’s Emu Point fish and chips. The Caledonian had some pricey rooms with the Splash being available in winter for only $600 per night! As it was a beautiful day we then decided we should venture further along the way towards Meningie while the...

Beachport

Image
We travelled yesterday (Tuesday) in the rain from Hamilton and travelled through historic town sites and decided to stay at Beachport which was a beautiful little town which reminded us of Arno – a place we visited two years ago.   Our van site looked out at the ocean and the caravan park was near the town and jetty which we walked ¾ the length of (nearly a kilometer).   As the weather started to clear for the day we decided to drive while we had the chance to keep dry and see sights.     We travelled through Robe and Kingston before deciding to head to Meningie.
