Meningie to VC
We stayed
overnight in Miningie which was next to Lake Albert – a significant part of the
Coorong National Park which joins Lake Alexandria. Our van site was right next to the lake where
we observed the pelicans feasting on the abundance of food as well as lots of
ducks. A very tranquil setting! The smaller lake seemed to be never ending
but we also discovered Alexandria was massive and seemed like the ocean in
width and length. When we looked at the
map we discovered that we could travel from Meningie around to Narrung to
Raukkan (an Aboriginal community) where the old church is featured on the $50
note! We boarded the 24hr ferry across
the Narrows where Albert meets Alexandrina and we also saw Point Malcolm
Lighthouse – the only inland lighthouse in the southern hemisphere. We arrived across
the Murray River from Wellington where we had to cross yet another 24hr ferry
where loads of cars motorhomes and trucks were waiting when we got on to the
town side! We then made our way to Milang,
a small community right next to Lake Alexandrina on the other side of where we
had already visited! We had lunch here
and looked at the jetty, the marble sculpture and then decided we would head to
Victor Harbor.
