Horsham to Halls Gap in the Grampians
Heard the
news that severe weather warning was for our area but looking at the colour-coded
map, Horsham was on the outer edge, with the Grampians also on the edge, so we
decided we should stop in Horsham and look at the weather for the next
day. We decided to stop at Wimmera Lakes
Caravan Park but were sadly disappointed to find no lake at the site or in the
distance. The whole place looked a tad
neglected, and the school holidays had just finished! Worse was to come with the ablution block
again having problems with water either too hot or too cold even if you just
turned the cold on a smidgen!!! The
amount of water was also sparse, and having a shower became a challenge to get
oneself wet, let along lathered in soap so not washing my hair was wise choice! It was about to get worse (as some of my
mates will know from historical aspects), toilets can be the bane of many a person
or traveller’s lives, as both the hubby and I found the toilet roll holders
either too close, too large and placed either too closely to where you sit on
the seat or too low near the floor so you could not reach to get loo
paper! This of course made the whole
process of natural processes a gymnastic series of events, and I just love it
when the doors open inwards (thought safety rules were Australia wide in the
expectation that dunny doors should open outwards in case of unexpected deaths
or falls?!) Getting in and out of the toilet itself became worse than using a
small one in our motorhome! Sure I may
be have a butt that compares favourably to the Kardashians - without surgical enhancement but honestly, why
don’t people actually sit on a toilet and look at all angles before the
placement of sanitary bins, toilet roll holders and other necessities? It becomes impossible to actually move or get
to sit on a toilet, let alone use it efficiently!
So we
ventured into Horsham but the weather was very windy cold and rain was imminent
so we decided to look at the beautiful river and followed it around the
town. We then looked for the grocery
store to ensure we had lots of meat and veg for dinners and then we decided to
hit the road to head for the famous Grampians!
The rockfaces look amazing! Sadly
the rain and wind came so we booked into the Halls Gap Grampians Caravan Park –
lots more sites without cement pads – but found one to park next to. We are now house bound watching Tv and hoping
the storm will pass us by without too much rain or wind overnight!
